Project Jet Kart v2.0

Overhauling the fuel and oil systems

After several successful shows this year, there were a couple changes that the kart needed.  The oil system has been redone to give it a cleaner appearance, as well as making it easier to work on. Over the last couple of runs, I found that once the oil reached operating temperature, the kart was seeing a 50psi drop from cold to warm oil. On cold oil, 80psi, and when warm 30-35psi. Although this is technically okay for the engine, I would like to see a bit higher pressure, especially when running higher power levels.  To remedy this, I decided to switch from 10w30 synthetic to 20w50 synthetic. Switching to a higher weight oil should help maintain a higher pressure without sacrificing to much flow.

Here is the oil system setup now mounted to the back of the kart.

Another modification that has been done is relocating the pump and making it "part of the tank." The inlet of the pump is now plumed in with large rigid line to minimize any suction losses.

An oil pressure switch has been added to the oil system.  This switch is wired to the fuel pump relay. When oil pressure is lost, power to the relay is immediately stopped resulting in the fuel pump shutting down. A very cheap way to save your engine in the event of oil pump failure, or line failure.

A picture of the new electric set up. Includes 4 - 20amp fuse holder and 2 - 30 amp relays for the fuel and oil pumps.

The fuel pump has been relocated to the top of the tank. A new fuel pick up line was added as well as a new fuel return line.

New gauges were put in, a new oil and fuel pressure as well as combustor pressure gauge.
