Project Jet Kart v2.0
building the combustor
Another update is in! Its been a busy week with quite a bit of
new things to talk about. Work on the combustor has started. I have
been in touch with Russ over at BadBros (www.badbros.net) and through
a cross sponsorship deal, he has provided one of the new combustor
kits for us to try out. In return, we provided a core component for a
new engine that is in development. This kit is top notch, and I would
highly recommend it to anyway looking for a quality build.

Here you can see all
the parts that are provided. Two main combustion chamber flanges, a
turbine flange, and two end caps. There are also some spacers and
injector tubes provides, however, those are optional equipment. After
a few days of searching, a local welding shop had the tube we were
looking for on the combustor jacket which is 8" OD, .125 wall
thickness. The tube is stainless steel, but will weld fine to the
mild steel flanges.

Here is a
close up of the combustor jacket. Again 8" OD, .125 wall thickness
14" long, but will be cut down to 12"

Here are two
close up shots of the two end caps.

Up close shot of the
turbine flange.

Here
are the end rings with the nuts welded on. These flanges will then be
welded to the combustor jacket. The end caps attach to these end
rings using bolts. The nuts are tack welded on which will make them
strong enough for bolt attachment, but easy to remove if one needs
replaced.
